Happy Holidays and Thank You to all the adoptable rockin’ rescues and staff at the Toronto Humane Society (www.torontohumanesociety.com) & the cast of the Rescues Rock! Talent Hounds Campaign and upcoming TV Episode (the Pet Network 2014). This campaign aims to dispel the myth that Rescued Dogs have issues that can’t be solved with love and patience or are not trainable, and to promote adoption and responsible pet parenting in a fun way.

There are more pets and animals being given or returned to shelters all over the country… dogs, cats, horses, pocket pets, birds, reptiles, fish amphibians, zoo animals, domesticated cross-over animals and the list goes on. If each have love in your heart and room in your home please adopt just one (or two) more pets.
If you can’t adopt another pet consider fostering or donating money and supplies… or to someone with pets who is having a hard time keeping them.
If you missed the main event or are gone for the holiday… some will honor the special for an extra day.
Below are a few shelters and rescues sponsoring specials over President’s Weekend, but check in your area as well
The Austin Animal Center will observe Presidents Day with a $5 “PAWSidents” Day adoption special Feb. 17-20 on all ready-to-go pets.
Visitors to the Center can meet Pawsidents such as George Waggington, Abraham Linkitten and James A. Garfield, unless someone has elected to take them home.
Also, potential adopters have a chance to participate in Mutt Match from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 18 at the Animal Center’s front entrance grounds. This will be an opportunity to take home an adult dog that is in foster care and talk to those who have taken care of it. Those fostering will be available to discuss a dog’s personality and training. The reduced fee of $5 applies to Mutt Match adoptions.
All pets will be spayed or neutered, vaccinated and will go home with a collar, tag and microchip. These services are valued at more than $200 and will help these pets stay healthy and safe.
Visit the Austin Animal Center’s website to view pets available for adoption or on Facebook to meet these notable pets.
The Austin Animal Center, 7201 Levander Loop, is open daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
For more information about Animal Services and the Austin Animal Center, visit the Austin Animal Center website.

Sharing a Great Pet Adoption Pet Story!!
Our friends, Al and Andrea, in Corpus Christi moved there with 3 cats. Over the past five years, one… Maggie, has passed on and gone to kitty heaven. But during that time, they have rescued a black pug that had some health issues, a Black Ker (maybe) out of a litter of abandoned puppies and an orphaned Chihuahua. This was quite a feat for my friend, Andrea, who was basically afraid ‘or at least leery’ of dogs before they adopted their first one, Buddy, at Al’s urging. Then ‘she’ adopted the next two, Beau and Princess.
Then about 10-days ago they ran across, almost over, a kitten. The Calico kitty who looks like one of their older cats, Peaches, was running across the highway when they found her. They did more than their due diligence to find the kitten’s owners but she is now one of the family and has been named Kit Kat… along with Peaches and Bart makes three.
3 kitties and 3 doggies… a nice family now that the kids are grown!
If you are an animal lover 4 to 6 pets, throw in a bird, fish or pocket pet, perhaps making even 7 or 8 are a fun and manageable number for a couple or a responsible family teaching their kids the values and joy of taking care of another living creature and overall responsibility (under supervision). If you aren’t, it probably seems like a nightmare… but then you probably wouldn’t be reading this blog.
