BLM… Bureau of Land Management, Confirms It Killed Six of Bundy’s Cattle
The Bureau of Land Management is confirming it killed six cattle as part of its standoff against the Bundy Ranch in Bunkersville, NV.
Breitbart.com: “A total of six cattle died or were euthanized,” a BLM official told Breitbart News. (We would venture to guess that it turns out to be a lot more than 6!)
The official listed the dead livestock cataloged by the BLM explaining, “The Bundy branded bull that was euthanized posed a significant threat to employees during the gather. The Bundy branded cow ran into a fence panel injuring its spine and was euthanized.” The dead animals listed by the official were:
According to the BLM, the gather was based on recent court orders. “Most recently, in 2013, in two separate orders, the U.S. District Court of Nevada directed Mr. Bundy to remove his cattle within 45 days, and authorized the United States to impound his cattle,” said the official.
The Bundy Ranch Facebook page, run by Bundy’s daughter Bailey Bundy Logue, posted photos of dead cattle from a mass grave, which they say belong to the Bundy Ranch, a few days after the BLM impoundment and called the agency’s actions “unjust.” The Bundy Ranch claim the cows and bulls were either “run to death” or shot.
The People for Ethical Treatment of Animals weighed in on the situation as well telling Breitbart News in a statement, “These animals shouldn’t be killed either by the government, or by the rancher who plans to send the cows off to slaughter. The best thing anyone can do to stop the suffering of animals is to go vegan.”
The Bundy family has refused to stop allowing their cattle to graze on federally-owned land, saying the federal government does not have any authority over them. The impasse led to a tense standoff last-week in which both federal agents and Bundy supporters had sniper rifles trained on each others. The government ultimately backed down, at least for now.

BunnyJeanCook: On April 23, the U.S. will celebrate its first annual National Lost Dog Awareness Day (NLDAD). Created by Susan Taney and Kathy Pobloskie – directors of Lost Dogs Illinois and Lost Dogs of Wisconsin – the canine-centric holiday aims to bring attention to all dogs that are lost each year. On a happier note, NLDAD also celebrates the thousands of lost dogs successfully reunited with their families.
The Lost Dogs of America (LDOA) website was created and is maintained by the two original founding members of the Lost Dogs network: Lost Dogs of Wisconsin and Lost Dogs Illinois. The Lost Dogs mission has been so successful that the concept has been accepted and put into practice in Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, New Jersey, Minnesota, Texas, and Wisconsin under the umbrella organization Lost Dogs of America.
Lost Dogs of America is an all-volunteer organization founded for the exclusive purpose of providing help to reunite families with their lost dogs. With the help of popular social media platforms, Facebook and Twitter, and their extensive connections throughout each state, the chapters are able to facilitate a statewide alert as soon as a lost or found dog report is received.
By working to recover lost dogs, LDOA helps to decrease the number of homeless animals brought into shelters and animal control facilities, thereby preventing unnecessary euthanasia. Lost Dogs of America offers an invaluable service when many feel helpless otherwise.
The tenacious efforts of these combined volunteers along with over 150,000 fans have helped reunite over 21,000 dogs with their families since 2010. Getting lost dogs back home reduces stress on owners, staff at shelters/animal control facilities, other dogs in the facilities, and ultimately saves taxpayers money. It also opens up kennel space for truly homeless dogs.
“When a dog goes missing, most owners do not know how or where to begin looking. Our specially-trained volunteers make them a flyer to distribute and offer helpful support and advice tailored to their situation and locale. We also constantly remind the public that not all stray dogs are homeless and that there is likely an owner looking for a dog that has been found” explains Pobloskie.
“One of our recent success stories was a lab mix named Abner. He was missing nine weeks during really bad weather. We never gave up, and neither did Abner’s owner. Hayden Law Repeal Bad News for CA Shelter Animals
UPDATE: On April 11 the California Senate budget subcommittee voted unanimously not to repeal certain provisions of the Hayden Law, just as the Assembly budget subcommittee did on March 13.
ilovedogs.com: While this is good news, the provisions could still be repealed. The next step is for the Assembly and Senate budget committees to review the subcommittees’ reports and vote on their versions of the budget bill.
California pet parents should therefore continue to spread the word, sign the petition and let their legislators know how they feel.
When the Hayden Law was passed in 1998, it provided California shelter animals with protections including a holding period of four to six business days.
But now these protections are in danger of disappearing. To save the state what he says is $46 million annually (California currently faces a $9.2 billion deficit), Gov. Jerry Brown is considering repealing provisions of the Hayden Law, which means shelter animals could be euthanized after only 72 hours.
The three-day holding period would apply whether or not the shelter is open for business. As Francis Battista, co-founder of the Best Friends Animal Society, told NBC Los Angeles, “You could go away on Friday, your dog could get out. It’s a long weekend and you don’t get back until Tuesday and by then your dog is dead. Three days is not a long time to reclaim your animal.”
The short holding period could result in less-adoptable pets, like senior dogs or dogs with health issues, being euthanized before they could be given a second chance by a rescue group or potential adopter. The 72-hour timeframe would make it difficult for rescues to arrange saving even young, healthy dogs.
“When we decide to save an animal, people don’t realize the time it takes to get a plan together,” Haze Lynn, founder of Take Me Home Rescue, told NBC Los Angeles. “By killing quickly, we won’t be able to save anybody. This is a big problem for us because we need the time.”
Not only would the repeal reduce the holding period, it would allow shelters to immediately euthanize rabbits, pot-bellied pigs, turtles, hamsters and other pets.
Also eliminated would be the requirement for shelters to provide sick or injured animals with veterinary care; to provide records of their animals; or to post lists of lost and found pets.
Back in 2004, when then-Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger was considering repealing the same provisions, the public outcry helped influence him to change his mind. Now Brown is facing a similar backlash.
Most animal welfare groups, among them the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), ASPCA, Best Friends Animal Society and Stray Cat Alliance, oppose the repeal.
More than 56,000 people have signed a Change.org petition started by attorney Marla Tauscher that asks Brown not to repeal any provisions of the Hayden Law. The Best Friends Animal Society is organizing a rally in Sacramento tomorrow, March 13, the day state budget subcommittee hearings begin. People are urged to spread awareness of the possible repeal via their social networks.
The law’s creator and namesake, former state Sen. Tom Hayden, appears in a video urging Brown not to repeal his law.
“I wrote the legislation because I learned that 65,000 animals were put to death unnecessarily every year in Los Angeles County, and it was meant to avoid that from ever happening to another stray animal and their family,” he says in the video.
“It’s not a budget issue, because you can solve the problem with penalties or fees. It is a humane issue, and I urge you to look at your dog before you allow this bill which protects animals to die.”
The dog Hayden is referring to is Sutter, Brown’s 8-year-old Pembroke Welsh Corgi, who often accompanies his dog dad to government meetings. Sutter has even sat at the table during budget hearings.
A major argument for not letting the Hayden Law die is that it has actually been suspended since 2009 – meaning that for the past three years, the state has not paid municipal shelters to hold animals beyond 72 hours or provide animals with veterinary care. (Many shelters continue to do so anyway by relying on city or county funds.) Animal advocates say the law should continue to be suspended instead of permanently repealed so that when the economy recovers, the state can start compensating the shelters again.
“Since these requirements are already suspended, the Governor’s repeal proposal is a policy decision, not a budget decision,” said Jennifer Fearing, California’s senior director for the HSUS, in a statement. “And the policy consequences of repeal are likely to be adverse for homeless animals’ prospects – indeed repeal cannot possibly move California forward.”
In defense of the repeal, the Brown administration says that local governments, not the state, should decide on the holding time for shelter animals.
But Taimie L. Bryant, a UCLA law professor who specializes in animal law, disagrees. She told Sutter’s Friends, a Facebook group opposed to the repeal, “The Hayden Law established a few modest provisions that should be in place at the state level as a minimum standard of decent animal sheltering … We need consistency across jurisdictions on basic aspects of animal sheltering.”
There is also a misconception that the state pays shelters to euthanize animals. H.D. Palmer, a spokesman for the California Dept. of Finance, told KABC-TV, “So those local governments who are actually putting down more animals get more money from the state. That seems to be somewhat of a perverse fiscal incentive.”
Social Compassion in Legislation (SCIL), a nonprofit whose mission is to reduce pet overpopulation through legislation, clarifies the reimbursement formula on its website:
“The reimbursement formula does not create a perverse incentive to kill animals. Shelters’ financial incentives are always aligned with saving lives because they can bring in revenues from adoption and owner redemption and will be spared the costs of killing (which are not reimbursed by the state). If they hold and kill, they will only get the small difference in excess of 72 hours reimbursed by the state. They will not get from the state the costs of killing or the foregone money from adoptions and owner redemptions.”
Thanks in part to the Hayden Law, California has been at the forefront of shelter reform across the U.S.
“Once the law is gone, the reference point for other shelters to follow is also gone,” Battista told NBC Los Angeles.

The Bureau of Land Management is clearly having an image problem. As the outrage over its intimidating show of force during last week’s showdown at the Bundy Ranch in Nevada proved, the federal agency is now caught up in a controversy originating in Wyoming.
According to recent reports, agents herded a large group of wild horses in the state before ceding control of the majestic animals to state authorities. At that point, Wyoming officials sold them off to a slaughterhouse in Canada.
Obviously, this development outraged countless advocates already incensed by accusations that BLM officers gunned down multiple cows at the Bundy Ranch.
Paula Todd King, a wild horse advocate with Colorado’s Cloud Foundation, said it would have taken “very little to do this in a more effective way so that horses are not just sent off to slaughter indiscriminately.”
Though wild horses, which have roamed throughout the American West for hundreds of years, are protected by federal law, the BLM contends these animals do not qualify for such protection. Instead, agency spokesperson Sarah Beckwith contends they are strays descended from rodeo horses from four decades ago.
King, however, wondered how such a distinction is made.
“How long does a horse have to live wild and free before it’s considered wild?” she asked.
The roundup, which happened about a month ago, concluded with the sale of more than 40 horses to the Alberta-based slaughterhouse, bringing in a grand total of $1,640. Beckwith insisted the entire process was conducted in concert with existing laws, and notice of the sale was posted in local post offices.
BLM Senior Ranchland Management Specialist Robert Bolton, however, acknowledged this haul was much larger than usual.
“That’s a pretty sizable number,” he noted, explaining that “most of our impounds have been in the low numbers.”
While the roundup is not unheard of, and went largely unnoticed by the national press for nearly a month, the perceived overreaction of the agency in responding to the Bundy Ranch in Nevada has understandably increased public scrutiny of the BLM. As most concerned Americans cited overreaches by federal departments such as the IRS and Homeland Security, the BLM generally flew under the radar. That seems to no longer be the case.

Photos are now emerging of the mass graves where BLM hastily tried to bury the cattle they killed. BLM agents used government helicopters to run down cattle in 90+ degree heat while shooting the cows that couldn’t keep up. The cattle that survived were then corralled into abusive “bovine concentration camps” that resulted in many cattle dying from dehydration and stress.
In an attempt to cover it up, BLM used machinery equipment to construct mass graves, but the arrival of armed citizens who faced off against the federal agents caused BLM to have to evacuate the area, leaving their cattle atrocities easily spotted by the public. BLM engage in horrific animal atrocities and abuse of animals
It is now emerging that scores of Bundy’s cattle were abused and killed, with many being dumped into mass graves. This story was first revealed by 21stCenturyWire.com. This is on top of the tasering, beating, wrong arrests and threatening of citizens with attack dogs during last week’s standoff.
In all, some $3 million of taxpayer money was spent by the government to illegally steal those cattle, only to sell many of them across the Nevada state line in Utah and California, according to 21st Century Wire.

Is BLM a criminal racketeering operation?
Some have made a legal observation that the BLM, which falls under the U.S. Department of the Interior, may be guilty of racketeering under federal RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corruption Organization) statutes.

During a live radio broadcast of “The Pete Santilli Show” on the Guerilla Media Network (GMN), Fiore revealed new details of “the BLM’s method of herding where they have slaughtered horses and cows.”
“This time we have video of it, and pictures of it,” she said. “I did post the first picture of one cow [that] was shot in the back of the head from a helicopter. I personally helped save a calf who still had an umbilical cord attached to her as she was separated from her mom. It is such a disgusting event … they (BLM) don’t herd cattle — they slaughter cattle.”
“If you look at the stewardship of land, and herding of cattle, first of all these particular cattle that were grazing on 600,000 acres — understand that when the Bundy family would herd their own cattle, there would be water taps to where the cattle would go down to the water and herd them humbly and softly — no cruelty, no abuse, herding them to where the cattle could get injured,” Fiore continued. “We now have an evidenced-based argument with how the BLM cannot take care of that cattle. We have cows giving birth (in the federal pen) where baby calves have been stepped [on] and killed.”
“They herd animals with helicopters, ATV’s and shotguns… If any cows get out of line, the get a bullet to the back of the head,” she added. “Make sure the BLM are off state land and make sure the BLM are not allowed to herd cattle again”.
She said she observed, near the BLM’s “compound” adjacent to the Bundy ranch, that personnel there were “digging holes.”
“They tried to bury some cows on the compound,” she said, “but I guess they didn’t dig the hole deep enough.” She said the legs of some cows were “sticking up out of the dirt.”
BLM head Daniel P. Love caught flat-out lying about cattle deaths
Earlier this week Natural News released a secret recording of the BLM Special Agent in Charge at the ranch, Daniel P. Love, who said that the BLM had not killed any cattle. Fiore’s reply to Love’s claim: “He’s a flat out liar, period.”
Observers who gathered to offer support to Bundy and his family noted early on that BLM officials had brought in backhoes and earth movers, though initially agents would not answer residents’ questions as to why the equipment was needed. Later it was suspected that BLM-led contractors used them to dig holes to bury dead cattle after attempts to aggressively herd them off Bundy’s ranch. Many suspect that the contractors may have disposed of some cattle off-site, 21st Century Wire reported.
Government tactics caused death of cattle
“It was confirmed by ranchers and observers last week of how the BLM and their ‘contract cowboys’ had deployed aggressive practices whilst rustling the Bundy’s herd, using tactical helicopters [and] forcing cattle to removal zones, often times driving cows uphill in 90-degree heat — a lethal practice known to cause tremendous stress and exhaustion to the animals, causing sickness and even premature death,” the wire service reported.
“In addition, reports by observers confirmed that spring heifers who were subject to abusive BLM tactics were forced to abandon some calves behind to hide in the desert bush (a common practice by mothers who are being rustled, who later can backtrack to retrieve their young) putting the calves at risk of death.”
Critics now believe the BLM and Clark County Sheriff’s Office could face legal challenges for reckless handling of the situation. It is now obvious that they were all complicit in the commission of horrific atrocities against animals.
The lamestream media continues to pretend none of this ever happened, hoping a nationwide blackout on the story will cause it to go away.

Rare baby camel makes his debut at a zoo in Hungary
Yahoo: Budapest (AFP) – A baby camel of the endangered wild Bactrian or Camelus bactrianus ferus species made a first appearance at Budapest Zoo on Tuesday, following its birth last week.
Baby Ilias, a male, was born on April 9, to its eight-year-old mother, Iris, whose maternal line has lived at the zoo for several generations.
Ilias — whose father came from a zoo in Miskolc, a city in north-eastern Hungary — was only presented to the media on Tuesday to give him time to bond with his mother, zookeepers said.
"When he was born there were problems, the baby was looking for milk from the mother, but as this was her first baby she had no experience," Zoltan Hanga, a spokesperson for Budapest Zoo told AFP.
"Us zookeepers had to hold down the mother and gently help the baby to feed."
Most wild Bactrian camels today are in fact domesticated.
A small group of around 800 to 900 live in the Gobi desert in Mongolia and China, but according to experts, are close to extinction.
Budapest Zoo was opened in 1866, and is one of the world’s oldest zoos.
Flying Squirrels
Flying squirrels, scientifically known as Pteromyini or Petauristini, are a tribe of 44 species of squirrels. The flying squirrel is not capable of powered flight like birds or bats; instead, they glide between trees. They are capable of obtaining lift within the course of these flights, with flights recorded to 90 meters. The direction and speed of the animal in midair is varied by changing the positions of its two arms and legs, largely controlled by small cartilaginous wrist bones. This changes the tautness of the patagium, a furry parachute-like membrane that stretches from wrist to ankle. It has a fluffy tail that stabilizes in flight. The tail acts as an adjunct airfoil, working as an air brake before landing on a tree trunk.
INLAND EMPIRE – The San Bernardino, CA flying squirrel, a seldom seen critter, may be in line for protection.
The US Fish and Wildlife Service said Tuesday it will undertake a thorough review of the squirrel’s status and whether it deserves a habitat designation.
The San Bernardino flying squirrel is genetically distinct from its cousin that inhabits Alaska, the Rocky Mountains and the Sierra Nevada of Northern California.
Fish and Wildlife’s Jane Hendron says they’ve been spotted in the San Bernardino Mountains. But in Riverside County, “Recent studies have not found the squirrel in the San Jacinto Mountains. It doesn’t mean they’re not there, but they have be very difficult to detect. We believe they are in low numbers, but we don’t have a specific population count.”
Flying squirrels get their name from a membrane that extends from the wrist to the ankle, enabling it to easily glide between trees. (INT)

Nobody is promoting hoarding pets or animals, but at a time when there are more pets and animals of all types being abandoned or being taken to shelters already bursting at the seams, there is nothing crazier than legislating away the ability of willing adoptive families to take in just one more pet!!
Our goal is to raise awareness and help find homes for all pets and animals that need one by helping to match them with loving families and positive situations. Our goal is also to help fight the trend of unfavorable legislation and rules in an attempt to stop unnecessary Euthenization!!
