Gentle Giant… Befriends Some Cuddly Chicks

The unlikely friendship between a golden retriever and flock of fluffy chicks is revealed in a series of close-up photos

By Sadie Whitelocks  -  MailOnline: PUBLISHED: 14:48 EST, 31 March 2014 | UPDATED: 16:05 EST, 31 March 2014 –

Los Angeles-based photographer Candice Sedighan, 21, decided to demonstrate just how ‘gentle’ her pet dog Champ is, by letting him loose with a group of newly-hatched birds.

In one of her images the canine is seen patiently modeling a top hat and, incredibly, a little yellow chick perches on top wearing a matching piece of miniature head gear.

Miss Sedighan said the chick’s hat came from a Lego set.

She taped the accessory to string and balanced it over the animal’s head to give the appearance of it being worn.

In another shot Champ is is seen lovingly nuzzling his newfound friends – which were rescued from a hatchery – being careful not to squash them with his paws or torso.

Miss Sedighan said that ‘this didn’t happen overnight’ and it took years of training to make Champ well-tempered.

She explains on Facebook: ‘There was an incident years ago when my parakeet got loose in the house and Champ "caught it" for me, resulting in an emergency visit to the vet and some stitches for the poor bird.

‘With years of training and our ever growing trust, here he is with some baby chicks.

‘The chicks seemed to really like to burrow in his fur for some extra warmth!’

Miss Sedighan started taking pictures of Champ eight years ago when he was aged three and now he has become the star of her Facebook and Instagram feeds.

Along with chicks he has also posed up with babies and most recently butterflies – even allowing one to perch on the end of his nose.

Some commenters have accused Miss Sedighan of Photoshopping her images as they have an almost ‘unreal’ quality.

However, the young photographer says in defense that she just has an ‘an extraordinary trained model.’

True Meaning Of Family – Stray Cat Takes Day-Old Puppy Off The Streets

HuffPo: Earlier this year, we wrote about the interspecies love between a cat called Lurlene and a pit bull puppy called Noland.

Now, six months later, the Cleveland Animal Protective League, the organization that rescued the pair, has won a $25,000 grant from the Petco Foundation’s ‘Holiday Wishes Grant Campaign’ contest.

A humane officer from the APL had stumbled upon a day-old pit bull covered in fleas in a Cleveland garage, Cleveland.com reported. When the officer couldn’t find his mother, she took the puppy to APL.

The team decided to place Noland with Lurlene, who had also been taken off the streets and had recently given birth to four kittens.

Molly, Noland’s mother, was discovered later that day looking anxious and famished. Her owner, who was later convicted of animal neglect, had her chained up behind the home.

Since Molly was unable to care for Noland herself and he’d been getting along so well with Lurlene and her kittens, they decided to have the puppy stay with Lurlene’s family in a foster home until he was old enough for adoption. He would occasionally go back to the shelter to play with his mom.

"Noland blended in with the family so well, he was even found using the litter box a few times," Judy Hunter, APL’s director of development, wrote to Petco.

Eventually, he was placed in a foster home with puppies his age where he learned how to be a dog.

Sharon Harvey, APL’s director, said their story encompasses all of APL’s values, including "learning from them about the power of forgiveness and unconditional love and acceptance. And when you get right down to is," Harvey told Cleveland.com, "that’s really what it’s all about, isn’t it?"

Real-Life Fox and Hound Will Mend Your Childhood Broken Heart

Mashable: The only tears you’ll shed over this real-life fox and hound friendship are from the joy of knowing that the Disney classic responsible for wrecking your childhood could have a happy ending after all.

Tinni the dog and Sniffer the fox found one another in Norwegian woods and frolicked together ever since. Photographer Torgeir Berge captured the adorable duo to share with the world. The photos will be used in an upcoming book by Berit Helberg to "spread their message about fur and friendship."

Berge wrote on his website that the book will include a number of short stories suited for children of all ages, including the grown-up kind. An English version of the book will be released sometime next year.

In the meantime, take a look at some of the adorable shots of these two furry friends.

Rotweiller Saves Tiny Chiweenie from Coyote

Although taken in 2004 and posted three years ago by YouTube user jdpmep, this remarkable video of the unsuspecting pooch that was clearly a sitting target for the coyote, has gained sudden notoriety.

It could have been a doggie breakfast. But in just 30 seconds, the luck of a tiny Chihuahua-wiener dog, a chiweenie, named Trixxie turned, thanks to the loyalty of a canine friend. While the little black chiweenie was lying in the sun about 7:00 am, a coyote hurled across a field and viciously attacked her.

The vicious predator mauled the tiny pup for about 10 seconds, and would have already dragged her away if she was not tied up. Things weren’t looking good, until the struggle caught the attention of a neighbor’s dog.

Rottweiler ‘Happy’ can be seen streaking across the screen, from out of nowhere, to rescue the tiny pooch.

Through clouds of dust, Happy can be seen charging at the coyote who drops Trixxie.

As the tiny Chiweenie runs for her life, Happy chases the coyote out of the yard.

YouTube user jdpmep posted footage showing the moment a Rottweiler named Happy saved his tiny Chihuahua-wiener dog, Trixxie, from a coyote. jdpmep said his Cheweenie, Trixxie, only received a few punctures and didn’t need a rabies shot, adding that prior to this unusual attack, there had been no coyote sightings in the city.

While Rottweiler’s typically get a bad wrap for being vicious dogs, breeders say they can be loyal and considerate pets when trained.

The Huffington Post reported that this was not the first time a canine received adulation and praise for chasing off a predator.  In January, a Maltipoo saved its family’s younger Maltipoo from a coyote attack in California and miraculously survived the confrontation.

Happy was definitely a hero, and Trixxie was lucky, but I’m a little suspect of the fact that this little dog was outside alone yet being filmed as this happened.  Seems a bit too convenient and more like she was being used as bait for this YouTuber and questionable pet parent.  Am I the only one?  Hopefully someone has kept their eye on this poor pup and his owner ever since!!  JOMP~
