BASTROP, Texas (KXAN) – Ninety pets rescued in the Bastrop fire remain unclaimed. Sixty pets are at the Bastrop Animal Shelter and another 30 are at the Austin Humane Society.

If the owners of the pets being housed at the Bastrop Animal Shelter do not come forward, their pets will be available to be adopted starting Monday.

Close to 400 pets were rescued from the flames and about 300 have been reunited with their owners.  However, weeks have gone by and the number owners reclaiming pets has dwindled.

"We are down to a trickle," said Troy Walters, Bastrop Animal Shelter director.  "We are only having one reclaim or two a day. The first week it was 10, 15, 20 animals that were coming in and being reclaimed, so it has slowed down drastically."

Starting Monday at 11 a.m., the rescued dogs and cats will be made available to the public for adoption.

"All adoption fees will be waived.  Instead, we are just asking for monetary donations," Walters added.

If the animals are not adopted, they will be transferred to other shelters to be showcased.

All remaining cats have been micro-chipped and nuetered/spayed.

"We are trying to get them homes," Walters explained.

Should the animals not be adopted after being transferred, they could be euthanized.

The shelter has also taken pictures of all the animals and posted them online.  You can see those pictures by going to www.petango.com/bastropanimalshelter.
